How To Create Some Easy Fall Decor

So the Autumn/Fall season is almost here.  Living in the White Mountains of Arizona, it’s one of my favorite times of the year.  The trees begin to change, the air begins to cool, and like I’ve heard from others and never knew what they meant, until living here, you can just smell it!  Being surrounded by oak, birch and pine trees, the season just brings on an even more special feeling.  The winter birds are starting to come into the picture, the spiders and ants are finally gone (YIPPEE) and we’re starting to plan on getting more firewood and doing a check on the house to make sure it’s winter-ready!!

I thought that this would be an easy and beautiful way to decorate my home for the season.  I already got down all of my boxes from the attic that are labeled for “Fall Decor” and got the house all ready for the season.  I love having different things around the home to help you feel welcomed.  This one was really easy to make – plus, almost everything is from Dollar Tree…except the bottom piece, so this is a definitely inexpensive way to add some charm to your home, or to give as a gift to family or a friend!   What do you think of it – do you think that it’s something that someone would enjoy, that you know?  Let me know in the comments below.

I hope you like it!! Have a blessed day, and please be sure to comment on, and share this craft on your social media channels – thanks!!

How To Create Some Easy Fall Decor

Materials/Tools Used:

  • Shallow Round Dish
  • Clothespins
  • Craft Foam
  • Natural Sisal or Spanish Moss
  • Artificial Flowers, Etc.
  • Ribbon
  • Glue Gun
  • & Time!

Instructions:

I started by using some wooden clothespins, and attaching them to the edges of the dish.  I found the dish at the thrift store, and it was just the bottom of an old butter dish set.  The top was already broken, so this piece was perfect for what I needed.  I didn’t want too much under the clothespins to be seen, so I needed something with very short edges.  It’s about 6″ in diameter, so the amount of clothespins that will be needed depends on the size.  Just be sure to get them close together, and evenly spaced.

Next, I got a small piece of foam from the dollar store, and using my glue gun, attached it to the center of the dish.

After that, I inserted some natural sisal, around the top of it.  I then used some craft scissors to trim any that was sticking out of the clothespins.  You could also use Spanish moss for this step, it’s up to you.

Next, I began inserting the artificial flowers into the foam.  You can add as many, or as few as you want.  Just be sure to have them secured in the foam, so they don’t fall over easily, especially when moved.

I also added some little butterflies, that I found at the dollar store, as well as a foam pumpkin.   I just used a wooden skewer that I had trimmed to the right length, and inserted that into the bottom to make it easy to attach.

I then used my glue gun to attach a piece of craft ribbon around the base of the clothespins, to hide the metal springs.  You can also add something to this, if you want to get even more creative.

After that, I just displayed it on the side table in the living room.  It’s great to walk in, and see this piece to remind you of the amazing Fall season!  I hope you like it!  Please take a minute to leave me a comment, and let me know what you would do different, or what you would add, etc.  Be sure to tweet, pin, share, etc. – thank you!!

This is really cute. I like how easy it was to make and the fact that once it’s made it can be reused. This would make for a nice center-piece for a fall function.

I love fall colors, this is so pretty! I have a bunch of clothespins I just found. This would be a nice craft idea that I could do with my daughter since she’s learning about fall. She would probably want to paint the clothespins.

This is GORGEOUS and so creative! I’m not a crafty person, but even I think I could do this with the way you break down the steps. The clothespins add such a pretty touch. Thanks for sharing!
