Make a Bandana Flag Wreath
#DIY #Craft
With the celebration of Independence Day coming up soon, I always love to feature a craft that goes along with that holiday, like this Bandana Flag Wreath. I always love anything that are the colors of the flag, or things that make people stop for a minute and give thanks for our freedom and those that fight to keep that.
This was really easy to make and could be reused every year, or just recycled for other projects. I found the bandana sets at Dollar Tree, so it ended up being pretty inexpensive, as well! I sure hope that you like it! Have a blessed day, and please be sure to comment on, and share this craft on your social media channels – thanks!

How To Make a Bandana Flag Wreath
Materials/Tools Used:
- Bandanas (Red, White & Blue)
- Round Wire Wreath Frame/Form
- Cowboy Hat
- Needle/Thread
- & Time!
Instructions:
I started by folding the blue bandana’s into long strips and looping them around a part of the wire wreath.
Next, I started alternating between the folded white and red bandana’s to make the “stripes”. With the size of the wreath, I went over the actual number of flag stripes, but figured it was okay for just a decoration.
I then wrapped some extra bandana’s around the cowboy hat that I was going to attach to the front to hide the rest of the metal wreath form that was still showing.
After that I got some needle & thread out to secure the cowboy hat to the metal piece.
I sewed through the hat, and around the wire frame to make sure it was completely secure.
I then decided to display it on our front porch, but you can put it anywhere that you wish.
I hope you like it! Please take a minute to leave me a comment, and let me know what you would do different, or what you would add, etc. Be sure to tweet, pin, share, etc. – thank you!!

What a great idea! It looks so easy which is my type of craft. Plus! I love that verse! Our freedom in Christ keeps me going every day.

It was – thanks Jenn!
Super cute DIY wreath! Love that you added a hat to the center of the wreath!
I figured in our cowboy town, it would look perfect! 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!
How many blue bandanas did you use on wreath?
I used 8, just because of the space. I know that the flag has certain numbers, etc. Figured that this just being a decoration, it didn’t have to be exact. Use whatever you have, and make it so you like it. 🙂
I love the bandana flag! Could this be made using an embroidery hoop, and maybe cut the bandanas in half, so they wouldn’t be so thick. Your porch is amazing!
Thanks Patti – they were fun to make! I’m sure you could make those adjustments. I just give the idea and you take it from there! 🙂
Does it matter what size handkerchief you use?
Not really Laurie – the number of them might change, but that’s it. You could even use a smaller wreath, or whatever. Try it out and tweet a photo, so I can see it! 🙂
Could you possibly show a pic of how you folded the bandanas as I’m not quite sure how you did so.
Mary, I just folded them into a fan pattern about 1.5″ wide. After that, I did a latch hook type knot around the wreath. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to bookmark it, I love how this turned out. Your porch looks amazing! #HomeMattersParty

I love all your decorations! Very festive and adorable wreath 🙂
Thank you Bernadyn – it’s always fun to decorate. Now I need to make your cake for inside! 🙂
Maybe I’m dense, but what is a slipknot and how to make one?
Hi Nell, It would be kind of like when you’re doing a latch hook rug and have the two end pieces go up through the round part..does that make sense?
How many of each color did you use and what size wreath frame? Thanks
Hi Deb, the frame was about 14″ wide. I used (8) blue, (8) red and (7) white bandana’s. It will depend on the frame size and also the size of the material. The white ones were a lot heavier, so took up more room. 🙂
