Make a Face Mask from a Bandana

I’m sure you’ve seen the stories of the health crisis in America right now.  If not, tell me how you live, so I can be away from it, too!   With all of the shortages, and people needing certain equipment, I wanted to share an easy way to make something yourself.  If you’re not a medical professional, and aren’t in need of top-notch equipment, this post is for you.  Being a family that enjoys the outdoors, and plays around four-wheeling in the dirt often, this is something that you could even wear for something like that.  It could also be used during the forest fire season in our area, to help with breathing, etc.  My family all has asthma, so we have to do whatever we can to be able to breathe better!

Materials/Tools Used:

• One (1) Bandana
• Two (2) Elastic Bands
• & Time!

Instructions for Making a Bandana Face Mask:

Start by laying your bandana flat on an even surface.  Fold each side together, to meet in the middle.  None of this has to be perfect, so just do it the best that you can.

After the two sides are folded, flip the bandana over.  Now fold each half portion (that you folded the first time) back over on itself in half again.

Flip it over again, so that the center fold is facing toward you.  Slide an elastic band over each side of the bandana, leaving about 8″ or so in the center.

Finish the piece, by folding each part on the outside of the elastic bands in toward the center.  Be sure to position them inside of the front piece, to secure it easily.  You might have to adjust how far the elastic straps are on the bandana, depending on how it fits on your face.

Now, you can just put each elastic band, over your ears and you’re set!  You might find that center bands feel better for your ears, and you’re welcome to change them out for whatever.  There are also some people making headbands that have buttons on the side, that they are then securing the face mask elastic straps to, so that they are not hooked to your ears.  This is said to be a lot more comfortable, for those that have to wear them for a long period of time.

Here are some more tips from WebMD on do’s and don’ts of preparation for the virus:

DO wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, several times a day. Use soap and water or a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol:

• Before cooking or eating
• After using the bathroom
• After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing

DON’T touch your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you have somehow come into contact with the virus, touching your face can help it enter your body.

DO consider taking extra precautions and staying out of public places if you’re over 60 years old, or have a condition, as you have a higher risk of developing the disease. Note that as of now, the highest-risk groups appear to be seniors and people with preexisting conditions like heart disease, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.

DON’T assume young people won’t get gravely ill or even die. As of March 16, 38% of all hospitalizations were of people 20-to-54 years old.

“How to Measure Honey the Easy Way”

Today’s “Tips & Tricks” post is about How to Measure Honey the Easy Way.  If you’re like me, you sometimes like to cook and/or bake!  It’s always fun to throw something together, and have an amazing meal for your family.  I recently found a recipe that I wanted to try and figured that I could use this tip to make it even easier.  The meal was a Honey Garlic Chicken that I made for dinner one night, and it sounded amazing!  I just hate having to try to measure honey!!  I had seen something like this on a cooking show, and wondered how many others knew about.  Figured it was time to share on the blog!

Here’s more on how it works, and how you can measure honey:

1. Measuring honey can be a pain…and messy!!  Start with adding a sealable sandwich bag into the measuring cup that matches the amount that you need.

2. Squeeze the honey bear, and fill up the bag to the top of whatever measuring cup that you are using.

3.  When it’s full, fold the bag up and zip it closed.  Be careful not to spill any out of the cup.

4. When you’re ready to add it to the recipe, you can just snip a bottom corner of the bag.  I had added some garlic and seasoning to me, just in case you’re wondering.  It will work with whatever you are using.

5. Now you can add it to whatever dish you are making.  Easy to do and quick to clean up – my favorite!!!!

The winter here in the Arizona mountains has been crazy. We just got a storm that left around 3 feet of snow on the ground…I know the East Coasters are laughing at me right now, but for us that’s a lot! It’s starting to warm up, but the temps have been in the teens at night, so it’s definitely still cold. The Most Pressing Office Management Problems, and Taking Care of Them

Office management is a beautiful art of synchronizing the needs of the customer with the best abilities of employees. People who work in this sector have their own status and value in society. Many people look up to this job. Especially, the salary and perks are very lucrative.

However, all these luxuries don’t come easy. It requires lots of skill, hard work, and planning. Needless to say, office managers need to manage lot of things.

A variety of factors cause a range of problems. Just like how every lock has a key, every problem has a solution. Let us look into some simple ways to handle them.

Employee Performance Problems

Employees form the base of the company’s pyramid, they are foundation of the company. Their performance matters the most. Any company stands on the quality of their products and that quality is brought by the employees. Thus, their performance is very important. Their low performance affects the company directly.

How to take care of it? The factors like personal problems, bad health or office environment might be the usual reasons for these kinds of problems. Here are suggestions that will help you improve things.

i) Counselling: A counseling session with an under-performing employee can be the best solution to these kinds of problems. The actual reason will be known and suitable advice for personal problems can be given during counselling.
ii) Sick Room: If an employee falls sick during work hours a sick room can help them rest for a while and continue the work. This will definitely improve the quality of the work.
iii) Build Healthy Atmosphere: Everybody travels through peak traffic to reach office. Its intolerable if the office environment is discomforting, once they enter. So, keeping the atmosphere fresh, comfortable, and lively helps them keep calm.

Confronting Bosses

Expressing that your boss is wrong is not a simple task. It requires a very diplomatic way to let him/her know their mistake. Though it is easy to keep numb it is very important to express your view for the benefit of the company.

How to take care of it? Confronting becomes difficult due to the fear of spoiling the coordinal relationship with superiors. There are few things to keep in mind while convincing your boss.

i) Proper Tone: Most important thing, especially while confronting your boss is the tone of your voice. It should be an explaining kind of tone and definitely not commanding.
ii) Proper Words: The words that are used while your explanation matter a lot. Words like, may, mistaken, misunderstood will help you explain better.
iii) Decision’s disadvantages and alternatives: Explain the disadvantages of boss’s decisions and do give alternative solutions to it. This will not only make him rethink but also make your conversation easier.
iv) Ask questions: This can be a very simple way or an indirect way to confront. By asking doubts, you will make space for reconsideration of the decisions taken. If he is right your doubts will be cleared, if not, it will be reconsidered.

Losing a Contract

It is never a good feeling to loss a contract. There can be numerous reasons like work satisfaction issues or mindset, where other parties might have not liked the work culture of the company. How to take care of it?

There are few internal and external things to take care. The productivity, the exterior and interiors of the office. The designs inside and outside the office determines the culture type of the company.

i) Focus on productivity: Invest on small things by which company can get large benefits, like wall colors, interior designs and accessories which affects the productivity of the employees to a large extent.
Cardiff University’s School of Psychology, in a research, suggested that office landscaping can improve workers’ quality of life and productivity by 15%.
ii) Build good interiors: Interiors are about the work culture of the company. Clients should be impressed before they enter into the meeting hall. Good interiors definitely give good feel for a collaboration. Hence, let the designs be logical and not haphazard. A tidy place is always relaxing.
iii) Create a Good Exterior: Though this not on what a contract stands, definitely nobody will deny a contract with a classy looking company. Secretly, it does matters. For exterior designs, invest in something cost efficient and requires less maintenance like synthetic green walls or landscapes, they are easy to maintain, durable, safe and convenient. They also keep employees happier, calmer and improve their efficiency too.

Team and Peer Conflicts

Internal conflicts in a company can be caused due to lack of co-ordination, understanding or patience. Even anxiety, or lack of appreciation and encouragement can also cause conflicts.

i) Organize Workshops: Workshops are a fun filled way to improve employees’ knowledge. Teach them about team work. The company has to bear some expenses but will get good returns in the form of better employee performances.
ii) Hold meetings: Appreciate their hard work. Encouragement is important. When there are differences of opinions, meetings can help resolve them. Mostly, the solution should not look like it is favoring any one of them.
iii) Help Them keep Calm: Usually, bad mood causes conflicts. Help them enjoy a pleasant work space. Bright red or grey can bring lot of stress to the workers. Try to keep their surroundings pleasant. Example, green or blue color wall designs or green garden will boost the mood of the employees and keep them cheerful. They keep employees calm and ready for the day’s work. They help the workers with good mindset and have positive attitude throughout the day.

Concluding Remarks

All the mentioned problems and solutions are the most significant ones in office management. These solutions are given keeping everybody in mind. Boss, managers and employees, everybody should have a calm, stress-free and enjoyable atmosphere at work. When work becomes enjoyable, product quality becomes good, once products are good company gains. This helps everybody grow together.

Sweet Rainbow Treats for

St. Patrick’s Day or Easter

I haven’t posted a craft in some time…probably because I haven’t had much time.  How about you?  I saw something like this on Pinterest and thought it would be fun to make something like it that could be used for both St. Patrick’s Day and/or Easter.  They seem to be a bit close to each other this year anyway, so I figured that it would work out perfectly.  Plus, who doesn’t love a bit of candy and being able to share some treats with friends?

Make Some Sweet Rainbow Treats

Materials/Tools Used:

• Pretzel Bags w/Ties
• Rainbow Colored Candy
• Gold Wrapped Chocolate
• Cricut Explore
• Craft Paper
• Printer
• Ribbon
• & Time!

Instructions for the Sweet Rainbow Treats:

I started by putting four (4) pieces of the gold covered candy into one of the pretzel bags.  I had to make sure they were in there upright to help it stand up easily.

Next, I poured the rainbow colored candy into a bowl and after washing my hands, started separating them into like colors for each pretzel bag.

Once I had a bit of each color in there, I used the twist ties that came with the pretzel bags to close them up securely.

Next, using my Cricut, I designed some little poems that would be first printed out on my regular printer and then cut out with the Cricut Explore.  I’ve never done the Print Then Cut option, so this was a learning curve.  Have you ever used it before – leave some tips in the comments.

After they were cut out (with the small hole I added to the top), I attached one to each bag with the same tie that was already on there.

Next, I started creating the bows.  Using some craft ribbon, I tied up a bow for each bag.  Heating up the glue gun to attach them to the top, I just twisted the tie to hide it behind the piece of paper and added a dot of glue to the center of the back of the ribbon and pushed it on.  I held it for just a bit, until the glue dried to secure it.

That’s it!! Now they are ready to give out to whoever you’d like.  Friends or family and for either St. Patrick’s Day or Easter.  The candy is perfect for either, right?  You could personalize these however you wished or add other pieces to them, etc.  The ideas are limitless!  Leave a comment below and let me know who you would give one to.

Today’s Post Will Be About:

“Natural Carpet Cleaner”

Today’s “Tips & Tricks” post is about an Natural Carpet Cleaner.  If you’re like me, you don’t like some of the cleaners that are on the market.  They either don’t work, smell really bad, or end up making your skin burn.  I would rather make something that is natural, and safer for my family to use.  Our carpet is in pretty bad shape.  We are trying hard to save up to get new flooring put in some day, but as for now, we deal with it and do what we can to make it look a bit better.

I have a spot in the entry to my office that was really bad.  I don’t know why the people who built this house put in light colored carpets – it should be illegal.  We’ve tried hard over the years we owned it to keep it clean and tidy, but over time there’s not much more you can do.  I would SO LOVE to get all wood floors in our home, but with our budget, that probably will never happen.  As for now, I’ll keep making this recipe to clean up the stains and putting money away to one day make everyone take their shoes off at the door!  Here’s how you make it, and how it works:

1.  I started out with the large stain at the entry to my office.

2.  I found a natural recipe online that I wanted to try.  Here’s how you make it:

Natural Carpet Cleaner Recipe
1 C white vinegar
2 C water
2 t salt
15 drops 100% pure lavender essential oil

3.  Combine the vinegar and the water in a large spray bottle. Add the salt and essential oil to the bottle. Put the cap on and shake to combine. 

4.  Spray in on the stain thoroughly, shaking once in awhile between sprays to keep everything mixed up. Allow the spot to dry completely and then vacuum to clean it up.

5.  After you have vacuumed, it usually cleans up pretty well.  I still had a bit of a mark left when I took this photo, but after spraying and vacuuming again, it’s gone!  I love having it safe for my family…and smell great!

“Easy Way To Create Artwork”

Today’s “Tips & Tricks” post is about an Easy Way To Create Artwork.  If you’re like me, you like spending your money on things that are important.  Other things that you see in stores, kind of make you shake your head at what the owner is asking for them.  Now, don’t get me wrong, a piece that is directly from the artist, and a true painting, etc. – those are worth what they cost.  I’m talking about photos that look like the older cousin to the fake couples that are in the ones that you see on the shelf, that are going for a fortune.

Well, I had a blank area on my wall in my “Route 66” office that I wanted to fill in.  If you know me, you know that I love anything that is to do with “Route 66”.  I grew up below Foothill Avenue in California and now live in Arizona, south of Highway 40, which has the old TeePee Hotel and downtown Holbrook, which is another area on the Route 66 trail.  My whole office has different photos, mementos and keepsakes from the area.  Since we live just down the highway from the Holbrook area, you have to drive right by “Twin Arrows” to get home (or go shopping, the other way).  I’ve always wondered about the landmark and what it looked like before.  Doing a Google search for free photos, I found one of what the area was before the vandals took over.  I’ve actually heard that with the new casino in Two Guns, there is a chance that they might restore this area, and bring it back to life – that would be great!  Here’s more on how it works, and how you can do it:

1.  So, it’s easy to create your own artwork for your home.  Start by searching on Google for an image that matches your decor.  Just be sure that you are using public domain images, and not something that is copyrighted, etc.  That could get you in a bit of trouble.

2.  Save the photo in a jpg or png form to your desktop. Another thing to be sure of is that the photo is large enough, so that when it’s blown up for a picture, it’s not too grainy, etc.  If you get one that is pretty big, you can always resize it and make the dpi better, if you have the program to do so.

3.  Next, place your order for the size that you want at the local store that you can get prints at.  I use our local Walgreens, since the cost is so low (and, you can usually find coupon codes online to save even more)! Just upload the photo to their site and wait for the notification that it’s ready.  Sometimes it can be done in just a few hours, other times – depending on the store, it will take a bit longer.  When it’s done, just head over and pick it up!

4.  Next, I headed to Walmart to pick up an inexpensive frame  They have some that are really nice looking, and not very expensive at all.

5.  After you have it trimmed, and framed, just hang it up wherever you wish.  My total cost for this was about $20 – which compared to some stores up in my area is a heck of a savings!
