Review of “The Turning” by David Bunn 5

Review of “The Turning”

I got an email from Elliott at Edify Media asking if I would read this book and give my review.  At first, I didn’t really know what to expect, but once I started reading, I was hooked.  I don’t think I have ever read a book this quickly and didn’t want it to end.  The story is amazing, the people (even though fiction) are REAL in the fact that they don’t seem made up and could be anyone you see on the street.

I love how the story jumps from place to place, but never leaves you waiting to look at a map, per se.  You always are in the center of the action, know exactly what’s going on and just want to get to the part to find out what is next.

This is a really great book and just like the message I returned to Elliott, I CANNOT WAIT for the movie to come out.  Definitely one that I will be out to see and taking my friends too, as well.  I hope that you can read this book, and enjoy it as much as I did.

Being that the back review of the book starts with “Take the turning…and walk the unlikely road”, have you ever walked on a road that you wish you would have followed the other sign, or taken the path that you weren’t sure was the right one, and in the end were so glad you did?  Either one, leave a comment below and let me know about the road and what it taught you!

Chicago, IL- Award-winning and bestselling author Davis Bunn has signed with Moody Publisher’s River North imprint for The Turning. Combining theological insights with a dynamic character-driven narrative, The Turning reflects a Christian world-view, with Biblical principles and practices at the core of the action. Bunn said, “When I came to faith at age 28, the Moody Bible Institute played a vital role in my early walk. It is an incredible honor to find myself coming full circle and being granted the opportunity to work alongside this amazing team.”

When asked to comment on this acquisition, Greg Thornton, Sr. Vice President of Media at Moody Bible Institute, said, “We are overjoyed to be working with a writer of the caliber of Davis Bunn. His reputation for excellence in historical and suspense fiction, his breadth of life experiences, as well as his spiritual passion and sense of purpose in writing position Davis at the top of the field in Christian fiction.”

Associate Publisher for River North, Deborah Keiser, said, “We are delighted to be working with Davis on this life-changing story. Of course we are impressed by his ability to write a brilliant story, but he is also a delight to work with. We trust that our association will produce quality fiction that will touch the hearts and minds of our readers.”

About The Book

The message was unexpected but instantly recognizable. A voice resonated from a distance and somehow from within. Against all earthly logic, it carried a divine command. And five very different people knew they were summoned to obey. Their obedience was demanding, but not particularly grand. Only later would a pattern emerge, challenging the cultural direction of the nation. They realize that one small personal response unveiled a new realm of moral responsibility. This affirmation of everyday hope captures the attention of millions. But power and money are at stake. Malicious elements align themselves to counter the trend. To succeed they must also undermine its source, casting doubt on the idea that God speaks to people today. The public debate and media frenzy place an unprecedented spotlight on knowing and doing God’s will. The five who heard and obeyed God’s voice encounter threats. Had God indeed imparted wisdom on selected individuals? Is this sweep of events part of his divine purpose? The movement may herald a profound renewal—one that some are calling The Turning.

I love reading a quick read that you don’t want to put down, and one that has a movie coming out too – it just sweetens the deal. Sometimes, I don’t know what is better…seeing the characters unfold after reading a book….or envisioning what the characters look like as you read a book.
