“The Father’s Love” Film Review
I got an email recently from Elliott from Edify Media, Inc. about a new movie called “The Father’s Love“. I had never heard of this before, but after I got his email, I did some research and it was being pretty widely promoted. I saw it on many different sites, saw that is was #2 on releases already and one that many people were giving great reviews for. I couldn’t wait to watch it.
“The Father’s Love” movie was about a woman, who had been very close to her own father when she was younger, but had those feeling smashed due to him leaving the family. It seemed to me that as the movie focused on her adult life, she was trying to fill that void with men and not having much “training” of what was the right kind of man.
So many times during “The Father’s Love“, you just wanted to walk up to her and flick her in the ear. So many bad choices…not taking friendly advice…putting herself in bad situations. I guess that can pretty much sum up life in certain instances.
I remember losing my Dad when I was 17 (to death and not leaving). I kind of tried to fill that void in the wrong way. Not having a trusted man in my life, any guy who came up who looked like one that would fill the void was welcome. Turned out to be some very wrong decisions and things that I still regret, but know that God has forgiven me. I’ve now been married to my husband for almost 15 years, and though he would never fill the void of my father being gone, he is a blessing to know, and to be married to!! Too many times, girls don’t realize what the difference of different guy figures in their life means, or what each can provide.
“The Father’s Love” movie, was one that in some instances, had a very long story and kind of made you wonder what it was about. The ending was a bit odd, too, but I won’t spoil that for you in my review. All in all, it was a good story and one that I would recommend to youth groups at churches, or young life groups. Great conversation starter, or to be used for a teaching and opening it up for questions, etc. afterwards.
Thanks Edify Media, Inc. for letting me view this film!! The main thing that I get in my heart from this movie is what the verse of John 15:13 stands for. It says that “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”. No love is great than that which is of God and the love of Jesus to die for us. Putting people or things above His love will never gain you a thing!

Nashville , Tennessee – Inspired by a true story, The Father’s Love tells the story of a woman that meets the man of her dreams. Charming, handsome, and wealthy, Reece becomes her world. But as their story unfolds, Sarah discovers that man is nothing like she imagined in a journey that leaves her with the awful realization that she is “the other woman.”
Produced, written and directed by Sharon Kon, The Father’s Love explores the meaning of relationships, and the way God can mend a broken heart. For the director, it was a very personal project, inspired by her own experience. “In a moment of seeking, because of the brokenness, I needed to know what the truth was,” said Kon. “God told me I am your father, let Me heal you – you can’t keep going through this cycle.”
The Father’s Love stars Angela Lin who was named one of Backstage’s most memorable New York stage performances. Also stars Erik McKay (All My Children, The Situation), Raushanah Simmons (Annie, The Other Woman), and Jabari Gray (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Man on a Ledge). Released to select theaters late last year, The Father’s Love is now available on Digital and DVD. For more information or to see the trailer go to www.wordfilms.com.
