Little Helper Craft (#TBCCrafters) – 03/21/13 4

TBC CRAFTER’S HOP (#TBCCRAFTERS) – 03/21/2013

I saw this on Pinterest and couldn’t help but smile!  Thought it would be cute to use around the house to store things or just to have to look at to smile when I needed something fun during the day.  Hope you like it, enjoy!!

Little Helper Craft

Materials Needed:
  • (1) Tennis Ball (or more if you want to make a set)
  • Drill
  • Eyelets or Brads
  • Glue
  • Utility knife
  • Screw & Screwdriver or Velcro
  • Pencil
  • & Time!!

Instructions:

Turn the ball so that the logo or any writing is at the back. Place two (2) dots on the ball about 1″ apart and 1/4″ below the top white “line.” This will be the spot that you put the “eyes”.  Next, draw a horizontal line 2-2.5″ long, and about 1/2″ below where you marked for the eyes. This will be the mouth.

Now, drill a hole for each eye, at the places where you have marked.  I actually ended up using an awl to poke holes first, since the dumb drill was giving me an attitude about going in. 🙂  Drill a third hole in the back of the ball as close to center as possible, if you will be using the screw to hang.  I just used Velcro strips.

Spread glue around the back of the eyelet and insert in the eye holes. Let this dry completely to secure. It is not necessary to use the back piece of the eyelets, since having to hammer them would be a bit hard.  I wasn’t happy with my first go at it with the eyelets, so changed course and ended up using brads, which were much easier to put in, and you didn’t even have to drill them, just punched a hole with the awl and slid them in.

Now, cut along the mouth with the utility knife, using extreme caution as to not cut yourself, or anyone else around you.
If you are going to screw it in to the wall, Insert the screw into the open mouth and through the hole in the back. Screw the ball into the wall.  If you do not wish to use the screw, you could always insert a suction cup or even glue on Velcro pieces like I did, and then just attach it to where that would adhere or whatever else you would wish to use for displaying it.

Now you can insert pens, keys, hand towels or jewelry into the mouth and let them dangle.  Whatever you want “Mr. Tennis Ball” to hold, he will!!….well almost, I don’t think he could hold on to the yard tools, or anything like that. 🙂  Hope you like it!
