Build Your Own Gumball Machine – #TBCCrafters (03/14/2013) 5

TBC CRAFTER’S HOP (#TBCCRAFTERS) – 03/14/2013

I got this idea online and thought it would be fun to make and have around the home.  I made few changes to what was shown there.  I love making things from simple stuff that look like they took forever (even though they didn’t ha/ha) and being able to have something around the house that looks great and people love.  This one was really easy and the hardest part was really just waiting for the paint to dry!! Enjoy!!

Gumball Machine Candy Dish

Materials Needed:
  • (1) Clay Pot (I used one that was about 4″x4.5″)
  • (2) Clay Saucers (sized to match pot above)
  • Glass bowl (got mine at Dollar Tree for $1)
  • Wooden Ball with flat bottom
  • Glue (I used Gorilla Glue) & brush for applying
  • Spray Paint (Color of your choice)
  • Gumballs or Candy
  • & Time!!

  Instructions:

Begin by taking your pot, saucers and wooden ball outside to a well ventilated area.  Lay down some newspaper or painter’s tarp to catch any messes.  Using the spray paint color that you chose, spray the bottoms of the saucers, the pot and the ball.  Let dry.  When finished, flip the saucers and pot over and spray the rest (making sure to have painted all over.  Let that dry completely.  I let mine sit overnight to make sure it was all set prior to gluing it all together.

When all has dried, take it to wherever you plan on finishing your project.  Glue one of the saucers to the bottom of the pot.  Be sure it’s set before moving on.

Glue the painted wooden ball with the flat side at the bottom to the bottom of the other saucer.  Be sure to center it.  Be sure it’s set before moving on.

Now, flip over the pot that you glued the one saucer to.  Glue the glass bowl to the saucer attached to the pot.  Be sure it’s set before moving on.

Next, I printed out a graphic on a sticker paper to look like the spot where you usually insert your money and turn the crank.  Print this and attach to wherever you wish.
Now put whatever you wish to serve from the bowl inside (I chose candy), but I sure wish I had some gumballs laying around!!  Place somewhere in your home that you will enjoy it each and every day!!
