“Upcycled Recipe Helper” #TBCCrafters Hop
Since we’re kind of in between on seasons, holidays’ etc., I decided to go with a home craft, something we could use all year and change up or create however we wish to decorate our kitchen. I know that a lot of people now use their electronics for recipes in the kitchen, but I’m “old school” with the good old index cards. I saw this idea in a book that I just bought (link at the bottom if you want one), and thought it would be easy to make. Do you always have a problem with them getting lost under ingredients or dirty from them? Here’s a way to upcycle something you most likely already have laying around the house, that will hopefully help you with your meal creation.
I hope you like it!! Have a blessed day, and please be sure to comment on and share this #TBCCrafters craft!!
“Upcycled Recipe Helper” Craft
Materials/Tools Needed:
- Old CD Case
- Scrapbook Paper
- Shelf/Drawer Liner
- Glue Dots/Tape
- Scissors
- Decor
- & Time!
Instructions:
Start by measuring the size of the clear portion of the CD holder on the scrapbook paper and cut it to fit within the area.
Next, attach that paper to the front of the CD case backwards. When you would open the case, you would then see your paper design on the inside.
When you have that attached with whatever method you are using (I used glue dots), you can begin on the next step. To help with making this not move around on my counter, I used a liner material that said it was for in your veggie drawer, but I’ve also seen it for putting under rugs so that they don’t slip. Just cut this to fit on the side that your CD would have been inserted and then attach it there with glue dots.
Next, if you’re wanting to decorate it a bit more, you can snip a flower out of the bunch with just a little bit of the stem left.
Fold that stem over to secure the flower and insert it into a binder clip. If you’re using a different type of clip, you could always glue it, or just omit this entirely.
After that, I just used a soap dish that I got at the Dollar Tree and slipped them on the back of the opened CD case to use as a spoon rest.
To finish, just clip your recipe on the front with your clip and cook away!
I sure hope you like it! Please take a minute to leave me a comment and let me know what you would do different, or what you would add, etc. Be sure to tweet, pin, share, etc. – thanks!!

What a great idea. Mine are always falling on the ground!
Exactly Ellen – or you can’t read them from having to move them all over with messy hands!!
That turned out SO cute! I love the flower with it!
Thanks Janel, just wanted to make it a bit less office looking, you know?
What a great repurpose! Very creative, I love the “soap dish” addition, making it dual purpose!
Thanks Rose – figured if I was recycling, why not do it twice!! 🙂
