Make a Floating Floral Mother’s Day Gift

It’s already almost Mother’s Day, and if you’re like me, you can never think of what to get your Mom.  For one, if there is something that she wants, she just goes out and gets it.  For two, they tell you that they don’t want anything…whatever!!!  You’re getting something Mom!! ha/ha

I’ve seen things like this on Pinterest before, and thought it would be fun to try.  I headed over to the local thrift store and found the mug/saucer sets for only $1 each.  The other stuff is from the local dollar store, so this didn’t cost much to make at all.  I think the hardest part was waiting for the glue to dry!  Other than that, it was pretty easy and something I hope will bring a smile to my Mom’s face!

Materials/Tools Used:

• Cup/Saucer
• Fork
• Industrial Glue
• Faux Florals
• Glitter/Jewels
• Glue Gun
• Cricut Explore
• & Time!

Instructions for the Floating Floral Gifts:

I started by putting the spoon in a vise and bending the top over.

Then, I bent the bottom part to be used as a “stand” for the mug.  Some people used a fork for this, but it’s totally up to you on what you want to use.

Next, using some industrial glue, I attached the bowl of the spoon to the center of the saucer and added some to the bent top portion to attach the cup at the top.  Be generous with this stuff, so you don’t have to worry about the piece falling apart later.

Now, I attached the mug to the top and used some zip ties secured around the cup to make sure the glue cured.  I let this set overnight to make sure it was dry and ready to be moved around without anything falling apart.

While I waited for the glue to cure, I went inside to start working on the details.  I found some Spring faux floral pieces at the dollar store and took them all apart.  Using my scissors, I separated the leaves from the stems to make them singular.

Using my glue gun, I started attaching them to the saucer to cover up the spoon.

Then I glued some up the spoon and inside the cup.  After I was happy with the greenery, I started gluing on the flowers.  This can be done however you want.

When I had that finished, I started working on the gift tag to go with it.  Using my Cricut Explore, I designed a tag to attach to the saucer.  I let it write it out, and then cut it out.  When it was finished, I attached some little jewels to the corners for some extra kick.

Now, you can give them to your Mom for Mother’s Day, or any special person in your life this Springtime.  I hope you like it!  Be sure and pin this, and try it for yourself!

Now that Spring is finally here…well almost here in the mountains of AZ.  It was about 35° here last night, so old man Winter just doesn’t really want to go away.  Other than that, the days are wonderful and it’s finally time to start planning on enjoying time outside.  We recently purchased a gazebo for our backyard and wanted to put some things around for when friends come over, so that we could play and have a great time.  I’ve been wanting to get a cornhole set for some time now, and figured that this would be the perfect time to just make my own.  Being able to have something that we can take with us when we go out camping, or racing with the RZR, I figured would be a lot of fun.

The project took a bit longer than I thought it would.  Best part, though, is that I got to personalize it to go with our family, instead of the ones that are just basic, or focused on football, etc.  I chose the “Speed Limit 55” so that it would go well when we’re out at the cruises with our ’55 Chevy.  We could just toss it in the bed of the truck and have a game that goes with us! It was pretty fun for me to make, even though I had to ask for some help from my hubby!

Materials/Tools Used:

• Lumber
• Nails/Screws
• Tools
• Plans
• Paint
• Bean Bag Set
• & Time!

Instructions for the Cornhole Set:

I started by heading to the local hardware store to buy the lumber and other things that I didn’t already have at home.  My little SUV did a great job getting all of this home.  Luckily, the sweet guy at the store was able to cut the large piece of plywood in half for me (which they often will do), so it fit in a lot easier.

I starting working on cutting the large 2×4 pieces into the sizes that I would need, based on the plans.

After all of the cuts were made, I was ready to go.

With help from my amazing husband, we got the pieces set up square to make the base for the game board.  Using a square, we set it up even and then screwed the pieces together to secure.

When that was all done (for both pieces), we attached the pieces of plywood to the top.  Using an old-school compass, I made the regulation 6″ hole at the top of each piece.  My husband used a large drill bit to made a hole, and then his jigsaw to cut the pieces out of the top.

We then cut the leg pieces, that are attached by screws to be able to adjust them to play mode for on the lawn or driveway, and then into a storage position.  This makes them easy to flatten out and store, when not in use.

When everything was cut out, I started filling in the holes that were made from using the hole saw drill bit to better hide the screw heads.  You just have to use a bit of wood filler, let it dry and then sand it.  It took a couple of times to be completely finished.

Next, I started the good old painting process.  I decided on using white for the main piece, since I was going for the street sign look.  It took a couple of coats, but didn’t take too long.

I then used my Cricut to make up some stencils for the wording on the front.

Attaching the stencils in the correct position with painter’s tape, I then used black paint with a foam brush to complete the details.  I pulled the pieces off and let the letters/numbers dry a bit, before doing some touch-up.

After that, you can just put the legs in the regulation “play” position, and enjoy the fun!  It’s a great game for family time, camping or just having on the backyard lawn for a break from the daily grind during the evening.

Make Some Bunny Tail Treat Cups

I can’t believe that Resurrection Sunday, or Easter is just around the corner.  My Mom was so right about time flying when you got older.  Don’t tell her she was right though, I don’t want to get that “look” from her! ha/ha My family is one to celebrate Easter in the fact that it’s the remembrance of Jesus dying on the cross to save us from our sins.  He gave His life as a ransom for many and we thank Him daily for that!  I know today’s world focuses mostly on the bunny and candy being the only thing that this Holy-day is about, and we’re not like that.  I give the Lord praise for all He did, and will never put the sole focus on the bunny portion of what the media always advertises.

That being said, when you know the truth, it’s still fun to bring some smiles to those that you love.  Being able to share some candy with a friend and let them know that you care means a lot to me.  I saw something like this on a “Delightfully Noted” blog post and thought it would be fun to make.

Make some Bunny Tail Treat Cups for an #Easter #Craft - Find out more at

Materials/Tools Used:

• Plastic Cups
• Candy
• Easter Grass
• Styrofoam Balls
• Pink Craft Foam Hearts
• Small Pink Pom-Poms
• Black Marker
• Scissors
• Glue Gun
• Toothpicks
• & Time!

Instructions for the Bunny Tail Treat Cups:

I started by using a permanent black marker to create some “feet” on an upside down heart foam cutout.

Using the scissors, I cut the heart almost in half to separate the feet.  Gently pull the heart open to give a bit of space between then.

Using my scissors to hold it, I hot glued the feet to the Styrofoam ball, as well as the pom-pom to make the tail.  I let it sit for a bit to dry completely before continuing.

Next, I filled up the cups with some Easter candy that I found at the store.  I made sure to leave a bit of room at the top to insert the grass and the “bunny.”

When I had all of the cups full, I added some of the artificial grass that I found at the store.  I’m really glad that they are using a paper version now, instead of the old-school plastic type which always worried me.  This new stuff turned out perfect for what I needed, and I only needed a couple of small bags to fill all of the cups.

When the grass was in each cup, I inserted a toothpick into the “bunny” to better hold it in place.

Now I inserted the “bunny” tails into the cups, making sure not to pierce any of the candy, but to just make sure the toothpick went between to keep our little bums secure.  Now they were ready to give out to friends and family and enjoy the smiles!  I hope you like it!  Be sure and pin this, and try it for yourself!

I received the Tennessee Christmas CD by Amy Grant from FlyByPromotions. I always love Amy Grant’s music and anything that goes with the Christmas holiday this time of year is great!  She is one that has continued to make wonderful music, and the sound always matches the specific time in your life.

There were so many great songs on the Tennessee Christmas CD. My favorite one is her version of “O Come All Ye Faithful.” The sound of the song and the vocals are amazing!!  It is also really great to hear her talk about the memories of her family, that go with the music. Happy Thanksgiving From TigerStrypes Blog

I wanted to take this time to wish you and yours a blessed Thanksgiving. Its been a great year here at TigerStrypes Blog, and I thank you for being a follower. I pray that I can reach even more in the year to come and help to grow this into something that can help many…as well as me.

Today I give thanks for my husband, David. I am blessed beyond words to have a man like him in my life. I give thanks for our son Dylan. He was a gift from God and we are thankful for him. I give thanks for my family and our friends. For the home we live in and the things that God has blessed our life with to use for His glory. I give thanks for being able to be a Group Shepherd for Global Media Outreach. Being able to bring Gods Word to all of the country and help people to know Him. I give thanks for God sending His Son to die in my place. Being able to know that after receiving Him into my heart, that Ill be with Him in heaven one day.

I pray that you have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family and friends. May this next year bring you even more to be thankful for.

The 4th of July is always a fun time to celebrate our country’s freedom and spend time with family and friends.  There is always something fun to do in almost every area of the U.S.  When we lived in California years ago, we would always join with the people that my husband worked with and have a barbecue together at his work, and then watch the fireworks show at the high school across the street.  Always a fun time!  We even got to light some off on the actual streets in Oregon, where my Mom lives a few years back.  Crazy how it can get when they are legal!

Now that we live in an area, that we really pray have no fireworks in any spots other than designated (due to the chance of wildfire in the mountains), spending time together enjoying a cookout, or a parade is just as much fun!

So this year, Kraft wants to help you “Fire Up The Grill“! Now that summer is upon us, we are spending so much more time outdoors and wanting ideas for things to make and enjoy with our family.  It also never hurts to have things that are easy to bring to other people’s houses, or events.. So, I turned 40 on Monday, crazy how time flies.  I remember back in the day, I thought that 40 was really old, now that I’m here, I think that the “hill” has just gotten further away…or maybe it’s just because I can’t see it anymore! :p

I lost my Dad when he was 43, and I really didn’t understand how young that was, until I got to be this age.  He was so young and even though, to me, he seemed old, it’s hard to believe how much of his life he missed.  I’m praying that I can live longer than that, and be able to enjoy my wonderful life with my husband and our son’s life and growth, and be able to do all of the things with him, that I wasn’t able to do with my Dad.

So now that I’m in the next part of my life, I thought it would be fun to poke some fun at it!  I know that this stage of my life is much better than before, I know more, I know what to focus on and I know what means the most.  I’m going to make this next part of my life the best that I can, and laugh at all of those who say “over the hill”.  You’ll be there one day, sucker, and I’ll be hiding behind a bush ready to throw something at you!!

Materials/Tools Used:

• Wood Plaque
• Cricut Explore
• Craft Paper
• Glue Tape
• Color Printer
  
• Letter Game Pieces
• & Time!

Instructions:

I started by using a wooden plaque that already had a shape and measured it to make a mat on top.  You could always paint this first, but I like the regular wood look.  I traced the plaque itself, and scanned it into my Design Space software to make the shape look the same.

Next, I used my Cricut to cut out the mat on dark paper just a bit smaller than the plaque, and then a lighter shade a bit smaller than that, to make a stacked mat look.

I used my Cricut Software on the smaller one to have it add text to the shape, so I didn’t have to write it myself.

Next, I used some craft tape to adhere the pieces onto the wood.  You could always use a glue gun, or glue spray, but I didn’t want to wait for the gun to warm up! ha/ha

Next, I used my Cricut again to cut out some numbers, and taped them to the top of the mat.

I wanted to make it a bit more than just words, so I found a graphic I had of a woman and printed that on photo paper.  I used my blade to cut it out and then trimmed the rest with my scissors.

I glued that to the bottom corner of the frame, to add a little extra and give it a 3D effect.  I was going to use spacers, but couldn’t find them.

Now, to make the “dreaded” number, I used letter tiles from a well known word game and using double sided tape, attached those together to make them easy to adhere to the piece.

Now, I attached those between the number and the words that were already on the piece and BAM!, take that 40!!!!
