Learning to Parent through Gospel Principles
14 Gospel Principles by Paul David Tripp
“Paul’s writing encourages those who have grown weary of the struggle, living under the weight of the world. He constantly turns us back to the life giving power of the gospel and God’s unfailing grace. Parenting our children is one of life’s greatest challenges and Paul points us to the one thing that can make a difference – a genuine encounter with the living God.”- Toby Mac
I received the Parenting – 14 Gospel Principles book by Paul David Tripp from #FlyBy and wanted to share my review with my readers. The book is adorable, and has so many great tips. It starts out in the intro saying “Your house is noisy and not as clean as you’d like it to be, you and your husband haven’t been out together for along time, the laundry has piled up once again, you just discovered there’s nothing to pack for lunch, you’ve just broken up another fight, the schedule for the week looks impossible, you seem to have more expenses than money, none of the people around seem to be satisfied, and you feel exhausted and unappreciated.” Wait, is he at my house? ha/ha So many times, as believers, we feel embarrassed to admit that our life isn’t perfect. Nowhere did God say that we would not have problems, in fact in John 16:33, it says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
All of us, as parents have troubles. We all find that time that we’d like to just curl up in the closet for peace, but then those fingers start showing up under the door. Has that not happened to you? This book gives us information on how to parent by grace, by process, by authority and many other topics. It also shows you how to remove foolishness and false gods from getting in the way and making it worse.
The author, Paul David Tripp, gives you advice, based on scripture to help you make the right decisions and know that there are many others that have been in the same circumstance. I pray that this book with help many, even with older children like me, be able to raise them well, as well as help other parents to learn tips on what they can do to make things work better. Can you imagine what the world would be like, if people stopped competing to be better than, and helped each other to raise them up? What a wonderful place that would be!

Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.
In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God—grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.
Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.
