charlieIf you’re like me, when you hear Charlie Brown and Christmas together, you have some amazing memories. I grew up so excited to watch that show every year, and still to this day, am just like a little kid around the holidays when I know it’s going to be aired. A few years ago, I even went out and bought it on DVD, so now I don’t have to wait! The story is one that I just love, the characters and that the writers had been so brave to release something like it. It’s hard to imagine what would happen in today’s world, if something like that tried to be aired. That story is one I hold so close to my heart, being that it focuses on what is truly important around the holidays. Not the gifts, not the food, it’s God’s love and being together with family! Simple.

Seeing this book, I was so excited to learn even more about it. When you start getting into the back story, you hold it even so much tighter, knowing what the writer went through, and how they actually even pulled it off. It just amazes me at a time before YouTube and everybody being able to get something posted in under a minute, back in the 60’s that was unheard of. Everyone on this team was obviously led by the Lord and able to be used to get His Word out to so many. It just makes you say Wow! Reading about who was involved, how things fell into place, and how back in the day of only what, like 3 channels on television, this was such a big hit. It gives you so much more comprehension of that simple cartoon, and how much deeper it actually was.

If you’re like me and have loved that television broadcast, you will definitely love this book. Watching the simple cartoon, so many feel like they are too old, or too mature for it. NEVER!! What that story stands for, and what this book talks about is just amazing. I didn’t know that I could love it even more, but now I definitely do! Okay, excuse me, I need to go find that DVD!

About the Charlie Brown Christmas Miracle Book:

Discover the inspiring, unknown, against-all-odds story of how the classic animated holiday special A Charlie Brown Christmas almost never made it on to television.

Professor and cultural historian Michael Keane reveals much in this nostalgia-inducing book packed with original research and interviews. Keane compellingly shows that the ultimate broadcast of the Christmas special—given its incredibly tight five-month production schedule and the decidedly unfavorable reception it received by the skeptical network executives who first screened it—was nothing short of a miracle. Keane explains why the show, despite its technical shortcomings, has become an uplifting and enduring triumph embraced by millions of families every Christmas season, even more than fifty years after its premiere. This gripping and joyful behind-the-scenes story of how the creators of A Charlie Brown Christmas struggled to bring the program to life will also help readers (and loyal fans) understand how America’s favorite Christmas special changed our popular culture forever. Keane masterfully weaves the momentous events of 1965 (the turbulent year of the program’s production) into his story, providing critical context for a profound new understanding of the program’s famous climactic scene, Linus’s spot-lit soliloquy answering the question repeatedly posed by Charlie Brown—”Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

“Fans of the Peanuts comics included many occupants of the White House including my father, President Ronald Reagan, who had a decades-long friendship with “Sparky” Schulz that began during his days as Governor of California. This book weaves together a marvelous tapestry of personal stories, including my family’s, alongside those of the creators of A Charlie Brown Christmas. A captivating tale of the making of an American classic!”—Mike Reagan, President, Reagan Legacy Foundation
