Butterfly Wings Candle Holder

#DIY #Craft #Butterfly

With Spring coming, I’ve been trying to make more time to craft.  There was a lot to do over the Winter, and I never really had time then, so now that the days are longer, and the weather is finally getting better, I figured that I’d make a goal to do more fun activities.  I saw something like this on Etsy.  They were only selling a pattern, but I figured that I could just create my own.  There are so many sites that you can get free types of graphics, and I found a butterfly bitmap file pretty quickly.  All it took was a bit of editing, and then telling my Cricut to cut!  I love easy and fun projects!

I hope you enjoy this craft idea, or know someone who would.  If you end up making one, be sure and share a photo on my FB page, with what you come up with.  I’d love to see it!  I sure hope that you like the tutorial, and pray that you have a blessed day!

Please be sure to take the time to comment, and share this craft on your social media channels – thanks so much!!

Instructions for a Butterfly Wings Candle Holder:

Start by using your Cricut and design software (or other cutting machine) to make the bottom circles and butterfly wings.  You’ll need five of them with the round parts to add a jewel, and five without.

When you have them all cut out, attach five of the wings that match to one of the rounds.  Attach the other five to the other piece.  Make sure to arrange them as evenly as you can.

After the black parts are cut out and assembled, use some orange cellophane paper and cut out a piece that will cover the whole back and make the wings look orange.  Be sure to make it just a bit smaller that the outer piece, but big enough to cover every open portion.

When that is done, start folding up the inner wings (after they are completely dry), so they will sit inside the outer portion easily.

Now you can begin putting the outer wing section together.  Glue each dot piece together.  Looking back, I should have just left these as full circles and had no opening, but it really doesn’t matter.

Once you have the other one all connected, it’s time to attach the jewels.  I found some sheets of different colored ones at Walmart that had sticky backs.  I still put a little dot of glue, to make them stay even better, just in case.

When that is all dry, you can add a drop of glue in the center and insert the inner portion of wings, being sure to adjust them to fill the openings of the others.  There’s really no set way to do it, and you could even just leave this part of it out, and have it look simple, but pretty.

After everything is dry, you can insert a small tea light or a large candle.  It’s totally up to you!  It was hard to take a photo to show the real colors, but I’m sure you get the idea.  They are really pretty in the dark.
