Make a Face Mask from a Bandana

I’m sure you’ve seen the stories of the health crisis in America right now.  If not, tell me how you live, so I can be away from it, too!   With all of the shortages, and people needing certain equipment, I wanted to share an easy way to make something yourself.  If you’re not a medical professional, and aren’t in need of top-notch equipment, this post is for you.  Being a family that enjoys the outdoors, and plays around four-wheeling in the dirt often, this is something that you could even wear for something like that.  It could also be used during the forest fire season in our area, to help with breathing, etc.  My family all has asthma, so we have to do whatever we can to be able to breathe better!

Materials/Tools Used:

• One (1) Bandana
• Two (2) Elastic Bands
• & Time!

Instructions for Making a Bandana Face Mask:

Start by laying your bandana flat on an even surface.  Fold each side together, to meet in the middle.  None of this has to be perfect, so just do it the best that you can.

After the two sides are folded, flip the bandana over.  Now fold each half portion (that you folded the first time) back over on itself in half again.

Flip it over again, so that the center fold is facing toward you.  Slide an elastic band over each side of the bandana, leaving about 8″ or so in the center.

Finish the piece, by folding each part on the outside of the elastic bands in toward the center.  Be sure to position them inside of the front piece, to secure it easily.  You might have to adjust how far the elastic straps are on the bandana, depending on how it fits on your face.

Now, you can just put each elastic band, over your ears and you’re set!  You might find that center bands feel better for your ears, and you’re welcome to change them out for whatever.  There are also some people making headbands that have buttons on the side, that they are then securing the face mask elastic straps to, so that they are not hooked to your ears.  This is said to be a lot more comfortable, for those that have to wear them for a long period of time.

Here are some more tips from WebMD on do’s and don’ts of preparation for the virus:

DO wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, several times a day. Use soap and water or a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol:

• Before cooking or eating
• After using the bathroom
• After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing

DON’T touch your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you have somehow come into contact with the virus, touching your face can help it enter your body.

DO consider taking extra precautions and staying out of public places if you’re over 60 years old, or have a condition, as you have a higher risk of developing the disease. Note that as of now, the highest-risk groups appear to be seniors and people with preexisting conditions like heart disease, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.

DON’T assume young people won’t get gravely ill or even die. As of March 16, 38% of all hospitalizations were of people 20-to-54 years old.

Learn How to Make Some Troll Headbands

I always loved playing with those pencils that had hair back in the day.  You would have the hair all messed up and then spin it between your hands, and the hair would go together perfectly.  I always wished I could do that with my own hair! ha/ha  When the Trolls movie came out, it really made me smile….brought back a lot of memories.

I saw something like this on Pinterest, and thought it might be a great craft to put together. I changed it up a bit to save money and make it easier.  Living in the mountains, we don’t have the big craft stores, so you learn to improvise with what you can find at the local dollar stores, etc.  I figured I could change this one out and just use a loofah for my supplies.  Saved a lot of money and worked perfectly.

Materials/Tools Used:

• Dollar Store Headband
• Dollar Store Loofah
• Ribbon
• Faux Flowers/Greenery
• Glue Gun
• & Time!

Instructions for the Troll Headbands:

I started by finding the center of the loofah, where there was string around it to hold it together.  Using some scissors, and being careful to not cut the material I needed, I snipped that part off.

When I got the string off, I was left with a lot of material….it was the perfect amount for each piece.

Using my ruler, I measured out the first of 18″ for the size I would need for each piece.  Once I had the first one cut, I could just measure by holding it next to each other and trimming each piece, until I got to the end.  You don’t have to be too exact on this, since you will be trimming it all at the end.

When I had all of the pieces cut, I started a type of latch-hook fold with the material.  Folding each piece in half, I then ran it around and through itself over the headband.  I had to make sure it was pretty tight, so I would pull on each piece a bit more and then snug them together.

I continued to latch the pieces around the top, until I had it completely covered.  How many you do, is up to you.  If you do want to go further down, you might have to use longer pieces of the mesh, so it will connect at the top with the others.

Using some craft ribbon, I just tied all of the pieces together at the top, making sure they were all snug and together.

When that was done, I used my craft scissors to trim all of the top pieces.  You are welcome to leave them as they are for a bit more un-done look…it’s up to you.

When that was finished, I cut up some artificial floral pieces and the greens and hot glued that to the front for a little more decoration to the piece.

Now, you can let your kids wear them, while they enjoy the movie, or just to have fun!

Do More With Your Lotion!

I’ve always loved the Udderly Smooth® products!! I was super excited to receive the products above to use for this campaign!!  Who doesn’t love that mug, right?  Did you know that you can use the Udderly Smooth® lotion on my face? Many women use Udderly Smooth® on their face either as a general moisturizer, foundation primer, or even to remove makeup. Like with any other product, be extra careful around your eyes. You can also use it for a sunburn! On their website, it says “Growing up, we always had a jar of Udderly Smooth® in the fridge during beach vacations. Apply a generous amount of Udderly Smooth® to your sunburned skin.” Isn’t that a great idea?

I think all of us use some type of lotion on our body. Living in the mountains of Arizona, we deal with some very dry weather and our skin suffers because of it. Being able to use products like Udderly Smooth® really help with moisturizing and helping our skin to feel soft and smooth. But, have you ever wondered if there was anything else that you could do with the products that we normally only use for our skin? Well, I’m going to share a couple of the things that I’ve learned with you – hope it can help you to learn something new!!

Have you ever bought something from the store that had a price tag on it, that just didn’t want to come off? If you put a bit of the lotion on the sticker, and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes, you can get it to come off quickly and cleanly. Just rub it in a bit after that wait time, and rub it off with a paper towel….poof – gone!!

You can also use it to help with your craft projects!! I know, that sounds weird, huh? Have you ever been using your craft scissors to cut some adhesive labels or stickers, and then had the scissors stay sticky? You can just use a towel to rub some of the Udderly Smooth® lotion on to your scissor blades (be careful not to cut yourself), and then wipe them completely clean. Now, you won’t have to worry about the gummy mess staying on the blades, and making it hard to use them on your next project!

You can even use the Udderly Smooth® to bring a smile to someone’s face.  Just get them a mug, like the one that I got from the company!! See the picture at the top of the page. Ha/Ha…now isn’t that priceless?

The tool I’m reviewing is the “InStyler Tulip Auto Curler“.  I didn’t really know how to use it, so I headed to their site and there was a lot of great information.  Once you figured out what to do, it was very easy to use.  My hair is colored, so I try not to use too many tools on it.  I let it air dry and usually never blow dry it, or curl it.  This one seemed to be a little better for my hair, since it wasn’t being clipped with the old school curling iron shaft.  You just had to put a lock of hair down the chamber, push the button, wait a few seconds and you were done.

It was very easy to use and even with my type of hair, that usually doesn’t keep curl for very long – this made a difference.  The curl happened quickly and stayed for a lot longer than normal.  There was no burnt hair smell, like I usually deal with using a regular curling iron.  It was also great to not have to worry about those “bent edges”.  Who knows what I mean?  That dumb part that you forget about in a regular curling iron that ends up looking like a messed up end!!!  Yeah, those “bent edges”!

This just takes your hair up in to the curl, beeps to tell you that it’s working, and when to release, then you’re set.  One word of advice, if you want all over curl – start the machine at the top of your hair and have it take the whole piece.  I also liked to just do the ends and have the curled bottom.  It was great and really simple to use.  It also didn’t take long to warm up, which was nice.  I could just plug this in while getting ready in the morning and have it to use for a couple of minutes for a full-on “do”!

All in all, I’m very impressed with this tool and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to make a difference with their look, but not make a dent in the wallet or have to focus on styling for hours.  Thanks Vocalpoint, for letting me be a part of this great InStyler campaign!!
